Environmental

We have recently been awarded the Qualmark responsible tourism's Silver for excellent sustainability within our business.  Below is our environmental statement.

We at Rimu Lodge acknowledge that we live in a unique and natural environment of great beauty and ecological value on the edge of one of New Zealand's largest national parks.

We are committed to protecting our environment and to this end we have developed an environmental plan of conservation, sustainable use and enhancement of our immediate, local and global environment for the present and the future.  We respectfully request our guests to observe these principles when staying with us.

We will:

1.   Embrace and support the link between the West Coast’s natural environment and business
success in tourism by;

  • recognising the necessity of environmental sustainability and managing visitor interactions accordingly
  • recognising that we only have short term stewardship of the environment
  • having concern for ourselves, our staff and our customers
  • supporting our local community and businesses
  • working towards sustainable water, land and air quality

2.   Acknowledge the West Coast’s unique environment and cultural diversity in providing a unique experience for all visitors.

3.   Actively promote the message of sustainability with guests, staff and others.

4.   Other actions

  • reuse, recycle or compost as opposed to going to landfill
  • use the natural environment (sun and wind) for washing, heating and cooling as required
  • reduce reliance on packaging and minimise water and power use for washing and cleaning
  • support local suppliers and minimise travel to purchase goods
  • use eco friendly cleaning products
  • welcome feedback from our visitors
